A basement excavation at Haymarket, with an excavator and a dump truck on the pad.

Excavation & site prep · DC · Maryland · Virginia

Excavation by people who know what the house needs.

The machine is the easy part. Knowing how deep, how level, what to keep, and what to haul away is why the hole is right the first time.

On the job

Building a stone construction entrance, Green Meadow

Sound familiar?

The problem, in plain sight.

Footings and additions. A foundation for a small structure. A patio or hardscape base. Grading and leveling. Trenching. Fence and post work. Small demolition and haul-off. A site package for a builder.

Compact tracked machines — a Bobcat E35 mini excavator and a T66 compact track loader — are sized for residential lots. Tracks are easier on a lawn than tires. We’ll measure the gate before we tell you a machine will fit.

Our own Bobcat fleet handles everyday work, and we bring in larger rented equipment when a job calls for it.

  • An addition that needs a real footing, not a guess
  • A yard that has to be leveled before anything is built on it
  • A trench for a line someone else will connect
  • A builder who needs a site sub that shows up
  • Spoil that has to leave, and a site that has to be left clean

Why it happens

The hole is only right if the house was considered.

We work from plans when there are plans, and we ask the right questions when there aren’t. Where is final grade? Where does the water go? What is going on top of this?

No ticket, no dig. Miss Utility in Maryland, Virginia 811 in Virginia, on every excavation. Private lines — an old well, irrigation, power to a shed — are not marked by the one-call system. Tell us what you know.

For builders and landscapers. DigRight can be the site sub: dates you can plan around, a ticket on every dig, and a certificate of insurance on request once coverage is confirmed. Say so on the form.

How we fix it

Assess. Plan. Execute.

01

Assess

What the hole is for, access, utilities, and where the spoil can go.

02

Plan

Depth, elevation, and a price — hourly or fixed — in writing before we mobilize.

03

Execute

Ticket first. Dig, place, backfill, and leave the site as agreed.

What moves the price

We’ll price the property, not a guess.

The price is in writing after we’ve seen the property.

  • What has to be dug and how deep
  • Access and the narrowest opening
  • Rock, roots, or a tight yard
  • Haul-off versus spoil that can stay
  • Mobilization to the county you’re in

Questions

Before you send photos.

Do you rent out a machine without an operator?

No. The operator is the work. The machine comes with a person who is responsible for the dig.

How small a job will you take?

A very small dig in a far county may not be a fit, and we’ll say so.

Can you work from my landscaper’s or builder’s plan?

Yes. Upload it. If the plan and the ground disagree, we’ll say so before we dig the wrong hole.

What about a deep trench?

Trenches five feet and deeper need a protective system and a competent person on site. If the job needs that, it’s in the plan, not an afterthought.

What happens next

Send what you can see.

1. Send the place.

A few photos and the address. Rain video is gold if you have it.

2. We call.

Steve or a project lead will call you back.

3. A written plan.

If it’s a fit, we walk the property and give you a scope and a price in writing.
