The Bobcat T66 chained down on a Lamar gooseneck, ready to leave Green Meadow.

How we work · A Square One company

Assess. Plan. Execute.

Most ground problems get dug twice: once wrong, once right. We start by understanding the property. Then we write it down. Then we do the work.

01

Assess

We walk the property, ideally after rain. Where water comes from and where it’s trying to go. How the soil and the slopes behave. What’s buried. How a truck or a house gets in. Which permits might apply.

You get the conversation on site, and photos of what we found, before we leave.

02

Plan

A written scope with the materials spelled out: what goes under the stone, how deep the pipe goes, where the water ends up. Where it helps, two options — the fix for today’s problem, and the fix that solves it for good.

Price and schedule are in the same document.

03

Execute

Our crew, our equipment. A Miss Utility or 811 ticket on every dig. Erosion and sediment controls where the site needs them. We clean up, photograph the finished work, and leave a short note on what we did and how to keep it working.

Equipment

Owned, and sized for a house lot.

A 2025 Ford F-350. A Bobcat T66 compact track loader. A Bobcat E35 mini excavator. Lamar gooseneck and dump trailers. Tracked machines, because they’re lighter on a lawn than wheels.

Our own Bobcat fleet handles everyday work, and we bring in larger rented equipment when a job calls for it.

Who

Steve Howard.

Steve leads DigRight and Square One Development Group. The standard comes from building architect-led homes: the ground under the house is not a separate, lesser trade.

Why a builder does this

The house depends on the ground.

Since 2011, this crew and equipment worked only on Square One’s custom homes. Now DigRight takes on site work for property owners, landowners and other builders.

On a Square One house, the driveway, the drainage, and the pad have to perform for decades under a home someone spent years designing. DigRight brings that standard to every property, including the ones that will never have an architect.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t design or install septic systems. We dig for your licensed installer.
  • We don’t seal an engineered stormwater design. We build to the engineer’s plan.
  • We don’t dig without a Miss Utility or 811 ticket.
  • We don’t promise that a county will approve a permit.
  • We don’t publish a warranty here until it’s the one in the contract.

Why not just hire a machine and an operator?

You can. You’ll get a hole. You may not get the grade, the water, or the base right, and you’ll pay again to fix it. The hour spent understanding the property is the cheaper hour.

Who shows up?

Steve Howard leads DigRight and Square One. The site visit is a person who will also be responsible for the work, not a separate sales visit.

What don’t you do?

We don’t design or install septic systems. We don’t seal an engineered stormwater plan. We don’t dig without a ticket. We don’t promise a permit will be approved.
